Let’s talk this week about self-awareness. Self-awareness is realizing that there is no opponent – you’re fighting against yourself. But you need to be self-aware so that you can recognize and understand your thoughts, your emotions and your patterns. By doing this, you will be able to address those internal conflicts and the behaviors that can sabotage you.
So how can we become more self-aware and turn the bad thoughts into positive?
- Keep a journal to write down emotions and your self-talk
- Practice mindfulness or meditation to think about things without judgment.
- Seek feedback from those your trust to make sure your perception is reasonable.
- Set aside some intentional time to evaluate your goals, your behaviors and the alignment of your values.
Self-awareness is something that you need to continually work on as it can actually be developed and improved over time. When we are working toward being more self-aware, we may sometime be uncomfortable but by looking inward at our blind spots or getting feedback that will challenge us, we also get to grow. The end result of true self-awareness is that this self-reflection can lead to greater clarity.
Step 2 is to become more self-aware!
