I remember seeing the Good Dinosaur in the movie theatre in late 2015. My nephew was almost 8 and did not like the movie, mostly because the Poppa dinosaur dies in a flash flood while trying to help Arlo (the smallest and most timid member of the family).
Poppa was the leader that took initiative, faced danger to protect his family and used his actions to motivate his family. That loss of Poppa forced Arlo into a leadership role that he may not have been ready for.
Leadership in this movie is more about strength through perseverance. Arlo’s journey through the wilderness made him confront his own fears. Arlo’s decisions and trust in dangerous situations helped to demonstrate that leadership is about taking responsibility, making tough choices and leading by example.
The Good Dinosaur portrays leadership as a personal growth process, where vulnerability becomes the foundation for guiding others through uncertain times. True leadership involves confronting fear head-on, learning from setbacks, and inspiring others to do the same!
