So last week we talked about taking the time to plan and reflect at least quarterly.  So let’s talk about some of the other things that we should consider and update as we plan our success in life!

First, what are your dreams?  Do you have personal dreams?  Write them down including both personal and professional dreams.  What about your family and how do they fit into your dreams?  Maybe your dream for your family is a fabulous African Safari, how are you going to get there and make that dream a reality?

Second, what about time to play?  You have to have some play time in order to promote creativity, growth and positivity!  What have you done to play during the last quarter?  You can’t just be all work and no play!

We talked last week about our short term vision (2 to 3 years at most), but what about our long term vision?  I like to have people think about what 10 years from now looks like.  By looking at what and where you want to be 10 years from now, that can help set your vision now so that you know what you are looking toward.

If one of the things you want in 10 years is a new job, career or position, I often recommend that you write the job description for you in 10 years.  That way you know where you want to be so you can figure out the steps to get there.  And don’t assume that what you write down now won’t change as you grow, it’s not set in stone but is just a means to help you decide what to work on in the short term.

Also don’t forget your family in this vision…kids grow up fast and you want to make the most of your time with them so be sure that family time is part of your planning and vision.

One final note has to do with accountability.  Sometimes we need someone to be accountable to in order to help us stick to our commitments and vision.  A good friend, mentor or spouse could be someone who can help you with the accountability of your vision!

Wishing you that the hopes and dreams you have today become the experiences and accomplishments that take you there!
