One of the most difficult things in life for me is control…I want to control EVERYTHING! I look back and wonder how much time I have wasted in my life on things that are completely out of my control! What I have learned is that I cannot dwell on things that have gone wrong but instead I need to accept it and move forward. If I don’t do that, I end up feeling stuck and unable to move forward.
If you aren’t sure how to handle a situation, take a step back, ask yourself if you have time to regroup before moving forward. Identify what is in your control and focus on that. Instead of focusing on the problem, try to find a solution. It is also ok to say no when you need to, that is easier said than done and I find that is so difficult to do. However, when something is not aligned with my values or priorities, I definitely say no, so that I don’t waste time on things that are not important to me.
One other lesson about control is that if you are in a situation where you made a wrong choice, find the positive or the lesson and move on. When this has happened, it is usually when I wasn’t in control and let my emotions get the best of me. Mastering my emotions and not letting my lack of control take over, it makes me a much more powerful person.
