Did you ever feel like a volcano?  About to erupt at any moment?  On our recent trip to Hawaii, we actually got to see Kilauea erupting…we also got to see it on our very first trip to Hawaii in 1989!

When we have an “extreme condition” that mirrors a volcano erupting in us, it can be a very harsh condition. A volcano can erupt with lava and ash, and in life we can experience sudden changes and challenges that can be overwhelming.  Sometimes that volcano is an unpredictable and intense nature of our lives.

At times, our life can be both challenging and resilient, much like a volcano!  BUT there is a lot of resilience in that harsh condition.  Volcanos actually create fertile soil where certain organisms can grow.  Maybe we need to erupt so we can continue to grow.

So next time you feel like that volcano is about to erupt in you instead of holding back, let it go…it might help you to move on and grow to the next step in life.  Erupting might not always be the answer and sometimes we must erupt “silently” but it might help us to see more clearly in the end.

Emily Dickinson published an Amazing Poem called “A still – Volcano – Life” that I will leave you with:

A still – Volcano – Life –

That flickered in the night –

When it was dark enough to do

Without erasing sight –

A quiet – Earthquake Style –

Too subtle to suspect

By natures this side Naples –

The North cannot detect

The Solemn – Torrid – Symbol –

The lips that never lie –

Whose hissing Corals part – and shut –

And Cities – ooze away –
