For my final post about Hawaii, if you have never been there, I can assure you that it is a beautiful place.  There are beautiful flowers, waterfalls, the ocean and sea life (I especially love the green sea turtles).  No matter where we are, we should always take the time to enjoy the nature around us.

Why are natural things important to us in life?  Natural environments can boost our mood which can contribute to overall happiness.  I love to spend time outdoors and I always feel better after I have enjoyed time outside.  Being outdoors improves my mood and reduces my stress. Studies have shown that green spaces and sunlight exposure are also linked to a reduced risk of depression.

Nature promotes health by reducing stress and anxiety. Spending time outdoors will release endorphins which boost our mood and reduce stress.  I also think that outdoor activities help my emotional well-being along with stimulating my senses.  The outdoors offers a place for exploration and discovery, enriching our experiences.

When we talk about sensory play, we would typically talk about children and how that stimulates their senses, encourages them to explore, discover and learn about the world around them.  As adults we can also benefit immensely from engaging in activities that stimulate their senses. The world is filled with textures, sounds, colors, and smells that can evoke emotions and memories. Sensory experiences for adults can tap into experiences, offering a way to unwind and reconnect with yourself.

So, the next time you are out in nature, take a minute and just enjoy the surroundings.  Take a deep breath and feel the beauty around you…I can assure you that you will be better for it!
