One of my favorite topics to write about and talk about is leadership. Exhibiting great leadership qualities can help you excel in your career and the continued development of leadership traits will get you noticed and increase your marketability. When we talk about leadership and specifically leadership traits what do we mean and why are they important?
Let’s talk about five leadership traits that women can really use to their advantage. Some of them are not “natural” traits and we may need to work at them, but if we continually work on them, we will excel!
First let’s talk about Communication! As leaders we need to have consistent and transparent communication. When we have transparent communication, it will give us the ability to navigate change, build trust, foster collaboration and enhance employee engagement.
Integrity is the second trait that we need to work on. Building a “high trust” culture will help us continue to build our talent and drive results. Integrity is so important because it fosters trust, sets ethical standards, and contributes to long term success and development of our future leaders.
Motivation is the third trait that we need as leaders. By motivating our teams, it creates inspiration to help us move forward. When our team members are motivated, they are more productive, engaged, and committed to their work. Motivational leaders create an environment where their team members can be heard, valued and excited about their work.
Problem-solving is the fourth trait. As a leader we need to be able to solve problems and analyze issues in order to take action. Being a problem-solver will enhance decision-making, encourage innovation, and allow adaptability in an ever changing environment. If we are a good problem-solver, then we will be successful.
The final trait is Bold Leadership! This is probably the most difficult trait, but we need to take risks and make “brave decisions” to move the needle. When we take risks and make these difficult decisions, it will lead to positive outcomes and transformative growth! Bold leadership means we need to be courageous and take action even amid uncertainty and sometimes prioritize the right decision even though it may not be the easiest or fastest.
