So yes, this is my Why I Love Disney series and it may seem weird to talk about Miss Piggy but the Muppets became part of Disney in 2004 and it also is true that Miss Piggy is not a princess but she is a star in her own right.

Kermit and Piggy aren’t just two puppets in love; their relationship plays out in the spotlight with all the tensions, declarations, and complications we’d expect from a true couple. But I think what resonates most with me is that Miss Piggy is bold, brash, charming, decisive, radical and totally empowered on her own. When you need an extra dose of fierceness or a reminder of what a little belief in oneself and talents can do, just watch Miss Piggy!

There are 3 big lessons for me that come from Miss Piggy and first is that even though she’s a pig (and a puppet), she has a goal list and she has achieved it all!  If a puppet pig can accomplish greatness, then why can’t we?

Miss Piggy also completely embraces herself!  She is not cookie-cutter and doesn’t want to be.  She knows she is stronger when she has her own ideas and her own style and she won’t let anyone keep her from being exactly who she is!  She knows that real fierceness and beauty come from embracing one’s self!

The final thing I love is that she is all the things that society has told us that as women don’t go together.  She is beautiful AND smart, career driven AND in love, “lady-like” AND powerful!  You don’t have to give up anything to accomplish what you want in life.  All you need is a little believe and a whole lot of love!

My lesson:  Understand AND accept ourselves!
