Merida is actually a Pixar princess who lives in Medieval Scotland. She is a free-spirited and fiery young woman who dislikes her princess duties, loves to ride, an expert with the bow and arrow and is considered rebellious by her parents.
Merida teaches us many lessons including independence as she values that for herself and is true to herself. She also is brave enough to take action to change her destiny (and shows that she has the power to change that). Merida stands up for what she believes in even when it goes against tradition.
Merida does have a conflict with her mother but she learns to appreciate her mother’s perspective and ultimately mends their relationship. She realizes the importance of family love and understanding. Merida makes mistakes but she learns from them and shows that growth comes from understanding our imperfections. And finally, she demonstrates bravery and encourages us to be courageous in pursuing our own path.
My lesson: Be independent, brave, and true to ourselves while valuing our relationships and learning from our mistakes.
