Hello again…we are at week 3 in our goal challenge…how is it going?  Have you slipped up? I am sure we all have in some respect but please don’t give up on yourself.  Any little move in the right direction puts you closer to your goal.  Just like when we go on a diet, that day that we eat badly we want to throw in the towel, but it is only one day in a whole long challenge to eat better!

There is a great article by James Clear called “Get Back on Track:  7 Strategies to Help You Bounce Back after Slipping Up” that you should, read but I will summarize below.

  1. Schedule your habits into your life – put it on your calendar or make it fit into something else you do (just like brushing your teeth every night before you go to bed.)
  2. Stick to your schedule – even if you can’t do it fully just make sure you do something (no matter how small.)
  3. Have someone who expects something of you – we have talked about this by having someone you are accountable to (I am happy to help.)
  4. Focus on what works – too often we focus on things that we can’t do and this becomes all too clear when we slip up and get off track, but getting back on is what is most important.
  5. Just because it’s not optimal doesn’t mean it’s not beneficial – as a perfectionist if I don’t do it the “right way” then often I will stop doing it, but allowing ourselves some grace will help us to continue toward our goal.
  6. Design your environment for success – even on days when we aren’t motivated, just doing small things that move us forward are key and having these behaviors can help us get back on track.
  7. Care – probably the most important of all is that we need to stick to what is important to us and make sure that we really care about the goal that we have, because if we do we will have more motivation to achieve it.

We are all going to get off track at some point but getting back on track toward the goal that we really care about is what is most important!  Keep saying to yourself that “I can do this” …because you can and if you need someone to say it to you, just let me know, I am happy to help!

I will check in mid-year to see how you are doing in the goal that you have set!
