This week I want to talk about “fit”. But I’m not talking about being physically fit (although that is also important in life). I am talking about philosophical, and personality fit when it comes to your work life.
So, let’s start with philosophical fit. Philosophical fit refers to the alignment of an individual’s values, beliefs, and principles with those of who they work for. Having a philosophical fit is important because it will lead you to greater job satisfaction, commitment and motivation which then can lead to better performance.
Philosophy is probably something you may have studied in college but haven’t really thought about since then. But philosophy helps us to think critically, analyze and assess arguments. There are other ways that philosophy can help us to grow in that it can help us to develop creativity by developing new concepts or approaches to problems.
Now, let’s talk about personality fit. Personality fit is the compatibility between your personality traits and the requirements of your job. Your well-being is such a big part of your personality fit because it also impacts your job satisfaction and performance. Having a good fit with your organization makes you more likely to be committed to them. You need to have a job that aligns with your skills and interests along with your personality traits. For leaders, this is especially important, because your personality “fit” will also set the tone for your staff.
Everyone wants to work with people who share similar values and work together to make a valuable contribution to the organization. Make sure you understand your own knowledge, skills, abilities and personality so that you can look for opportunities that match your preferences…. your FIT!
